Monica, oh my darling seems like a simple story but gets more and more complicated as time goes on. According to the table of contents IMDB, this film explores a web of romance and relationships as a man becomes embroiled in a conspiracy. One is the director Wasan Bala does well, it creates a unique atmosphere when genres are mixed.

There’s loads of action and great close-ups of characters that make them intimidating when they speak. There are also some conventions borrowed from a western that work in the context of Bollywood films. The suspense is extremely well built and the music that accompanies the scenes takes them to another level. We also find out that Jayant doesn’t love Nikki but is dating her so he can marry her and take over the Unicorn company.

Then Monica Machado (Huma S. Quereshi), who works at Unicorn, walks in and Jayant becomes attracted to her. They end up having an affair and over the months Monica informs Jayant that she is pregnant with his child. This film examines a mother’s connection to her child and what she will do to protect her unborn baby.

There are films that perfectly balance the romance of relationships and the action of hooking up with interesting people. It gets more exciting as both sides come up with their own plans. The twists in such films always come at the right moment and keep the audience in suspense.

That’s pretty similar Monica, oh my darling because of a man’s plan to murder his wife. This is exactly what Jayant goes through with Monica and the other characters in the film. Monica has had encounters with many others, which becomes a theme throughout the story.

She is then drawn into a web of deceit and murder. If she survives, she must question everyone’s motives – even the people she loves, according to the IMDB synopsis.

It’s wonderful that it’s a female-led film because normally films like this don’t have that. Again, the focus is on women taking matters into their own hands and doing their best to solve their own problems.
