Some games meticulously balance the level cap, keeping players from getting stronger than the most dangerous enemies. Japanese RPGs often set the level cap to a default of 99 and call it a day. But some games grow characters to a ridiculous extent, allowing them to roll over their enemies.

However, grinding is still possible, and there are some surprising boss fights for people looking for them. As difficult as these endgame bosses are, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot lets players level up to 250 to deliver the kind of one-sided punch Vegeta normally takes.

When the game launched, the level cap was 81, meaning every skill was capped at 100. By making each skill Legendary, players can effectively level up to 255. No enemy in the game even comes close to this level, but this gives players a reason to wander through their favorite game a little longer.

Even the final boss can be defeated with about half the power, leaving players with only the super bosses as real challenges. However, one of the game’s patches increased the max level to 120. Those extra 30 levels put the protagonist and his crew on par with some of the strongest super bosses in the game, giving grind-focused fans something to work for.

Developer Compile Heart isn’t exactly known for outstanding RPGs, however Fairy Fencer F may at least be known for having one of the highest caps in video games. The main game has the traditional JRPG level cap of 99, and players will likely never need to reach that to beat the game.

But there’s a DLC that players can pay for to partake in some of the bonus content that raises the level cap to a staggering 999. Of course, there are also additional difficulty levels to at least provide a challenge for players who just want to keep leveling as well.

Koei-Tecmo’s musou genre enjoyed a renaissance in collaborations with Nintendo franchises like zelda and fire sign. They’ve expanded the lore of their universes and experimented with RPG mechanics to refresh the genre. With Hyrule warriorCharacters can level up to 99 to start, although most enemies don’t require enough grinding to make it worthwhile.

However, as Koei-Tecmo introduced more content and characters, they continued to update the game’s level cap. Each time, they increased the cap by 50 levels before eventually reaching a whopping 255. Almost zero enemies will pose a challenge at this point, but that’s part of the fun of a Musou game.

One of the best things about Falcom’s Traces of cold steel RPGs don’t pretend the development of the previous game didn’t happen. In most sequels, the next game throws the protagonist at level 1 and makes excuses for why he doesn’t have all his cool stuff.

With cold steel 2, Falcom keeps the protagonist at the same level and with the same techniques since the sequel takes place just a few weeks later. The level cap in both cold steel 2 and cold steel 4 is raised from 99 to 200, which fits with one of the game’s themes that there’s always room for more growth.

As early as Star Ocean: The Second Storyplayers were able to complete most of the game at around level 75-80.

But players who think this is the game’s level cap will quickly find themselves wrong. The final group of bosses is much stronger than most players will get without grinding, revealing the true level cap of the game: the max level for Star Ocean: The Second Story is 255.

Disgaea does not require this level to beat the game; Players could just do it if they wanted to experience the most overpowered character of all time. Basically, players could become the light novel protagonists they always wanted to be.

1/10 Rune Factory 3 has a level cap of 10,000

Rune Factory 3 raised the level cap to a staggering 10,000. The main game will never require anything beyond the first 100 levels, which means the player can probably hit the boss with one shot.

That being said, the bonus dungeons require levels well into the 200s, but still nothing close to the level 10,000 cap. In addition, players can further increase the power of individual skills, increasing the skill to a maximum of over 65,000, although visibly all skills only show 999.
