7 Best Nintendo Switch Games of 2022

The games industry is finally recovering from the chaotic events of the last few years, and 2022 has brought us many fantastic games to get our hands on. But the console that has done the most this year is undoubtedly the Nintendo Switch.

The Switch has released absolutely incredible exclusives and third-party titles this year. There were so many that our wallets couldn’t take a break. If you’re not sure what to add to your collection next, these are some of the best titles on the Nintendo Switch in 2022.

1. bayonet 3

Bayonetta 3 got off to a rocky start, to say the least, and faced a number of controversies ahead of its release. But as the saying goes, all press is good press, and sales of the game skyrocketed.

Controversy aside, at the end of the day the game speaks for itself and we only have good things to say about it. Fans have been waiting for this game for a long time and the end product was totally worth the wait.

If you’re looking for an action-packed adventure packed with epic stories and a healthy dose of looks from Bayonetta herself, Bayonetta 3 is for you.

2. Pokémon Legends Arceus

The Pokémon franchise was solid from the start, eventually grossing more than $105 billion to become the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, according to Statista. Previously, the Pokémon Company had stuck to a very traditional formula for its big-budget titles, deviating only in its spin-off games.

But this year, the Pokémon Company has branched out with its main series titles with Pokémon Legends Arceus. This game serves as a prequel to the Diamond and Pearl games, and the new formula was just what the franchise needed.

Pokémon Legends Arceus takes a much more realistic approach than any previous Pokémon title. You can sneak up on Pokémon in the wild, throw Poké Balls at them in real time, and take damage from attacks yourself.

Pokémon Legends Arceus brought a breath of fresh air to the series and was something the older generation of Pokémon fans have been craving for years.

3. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Two mainline Pokémon games in one year? You read that right! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have also made a leaf out of the Legends Arceus book and will change the formula with the first-ever open-world Pokémon experience.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are more traditional Pokémon adventures than Legends Arceus, but the fact that they’re open-world is an incredible development for the series.

Players have complete freedom of where to go and which gyms to take first. There are also two other main quests you can complete when you’re not exploring the open world and catching all the new Pokemon.

4. Kirby and the Forgotten Land

It was a year of firsts for Nintendo when Kirby got his first 3D platform adventure. Think a cross between Kirby and Mario Odyssey and you have Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This game completely reinvigorated the Kirby games as we knew them, selling a record-breaking 5.27 million copies since launch, according to Nintendo’s November 2022 financial report (PDF).

The game works great on the system and even has a co-op mode so your friends can play light-hearted Kirby platforms alongside you. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is more challenging than most Kirby games, which have earned a reputation for being incredibly simple and kid-friendly.

This game is by no means difficult, but it offers enough challenge to engage a wide audience.

5. Harvestella

Harvestella is like a combination of a JRPG and a farming sim. So if you’re a fan of any of these genres, you’ll most likely enjoy this Square Enix title. With an immersive story, epic combat, and soothing farming elements, there’s something for everyone.

Combat in Harvestella is very JRPG-like, with epic boss battles and a class and party system. The farming sim elements are also well thought out and necessary to progress in the story.

With many games that combine multiple genres, it is easy to get lost as the player focuses more on a different aspect of the game. Still, Harvestella does a great job of balancing both genres to create a deep and immersive game.

6th move 3

Splatoon is one of Nintendo’s core franchises. This title is so popular that when Splatoon 3 was released, Nintendo Japan announced that it had sold over 3.4 million copies in three days. Splatoon 3 takes everything that was good about Splatoon 2 and makes it better.

Splatoon 3 included even more techniques and weapons to freshen up the experience and made some improvements to the Salmon Run game mode. Previously you could only participate in the Salmon Run once a week. But in Splatoon 3, you can squirt salmon whenever you feel like it.

The soundtrack is incredible as always with Splatoon games, and there’s ongoing support for the title and frequent online events like Splatfest to keep you entertained.

Splatoon made its debut on the Wii U. With the Wii U eShop closing next year, it’s now or never time to pick up the first iteration of Splatoon. Check out our guide to the best Wii U games to get before the eShop closes for even more hidden gems.

7. Mario + Rabbid’s Spark of Hope

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a turn-based tactical RPG spin-off of the Mario series. If you’re familiar with the tactical combat system of Fire Emblem or other similar titles, it plays very similarly. Many tactical RPGs have been released on the Nintendo Switch in 2022, but Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is one of the best.

The Mario + Rabbids franchise is a crossover between Ubisoft’s Raving Rabbids franchise and Mario that we’re sure needs no introduction. The result is a series of colorful and hilarious Rabbid versions of the Mario characters.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a light-hearted adventure with a tried-and-true combat system that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
