Alcohol is a nice addition to any Thanksgiving meal (in moderation, of course) — but are liquor stores open on the day?
Thanksgiving is celebrated on November 24, 2022. It is observed annually on the fourth Thursday of the month and the day is meant to be spent with family and friends.
And many of you may wish to bring a bottle of wine or champagne when visiting family or friends, but will the liquor store be open?
Are liquor stores open on Thanksgiving?
The answer to that is yes and no.
The opening and closing of liquor stores on Thanksgiving depends on state laws. While some regions allow it, others restrict the sale of alcohol on the holiday.
We therefore recommend that you do all your liquor shopping before you go on holiday – just to be safe.
However, here is the list of states that allow liquor stores to stay open mostly on Thanksgiving:
- Louisiana (restrictions on liquor sales in some regions)
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- new York
- Pennsylvania (State liquor stores to close)
- South Carolina
- West Virginia
While liquor sales are permitted in the regions listed above, not all stores may remain open on Thanksgiving 2022. Some may even work reduced hours. Before you stop, call the nearest store.
ABC reports that liquor stores cannot be open before 10 a.m. and after 9 p.m. on any day.
Do not drink and drive
Needless to say, you should not drive after consuming alcohol, not just on Thanksgiving, but anytime.
However, to ensure people are following this strictly, police will be patrolling the main streets and other locations to enforce DUI.
If you stay home or take a taxi ride after drinking, you not only save your life, you also do not endanger others.
White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook said in a statement: “We know there are gatherings, but you just have to make a good decision. You need to make sure you designate someone completely sober to take you home or use a driving app.
What is closed on November 24, 2022?
Banking is among several services to be shut down on Thursday.
JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, US Bancorp, Goldman Sachs and other banks across America remain closed. However, they will reopen on Friday.
Similar to liquor stores, some grocery stores will close on Thanksgiving Day 2022 to allow their employees to spend time with their families. However, a few such as Acme, Food Lion and United Supermarkets will be open. However, you might have reduced working hours.
Because the US Postal Services are also closed on Thursday, there will be no mail delivery on Thanksgiving.
