Our daily Bet Builder column continues with picks from Friday’s World Cup games including a win for one European heavyweight while another appears to be struggling.

Dutch unlikely to please

Bet 1: Bet on Ecuador or draw double chance

Both the Netherlands and Ecuador enjoyed 2-0 wins in their opening game in Group A, with the Dutch defeating Senegal and La Tri silencing hosts Qatar.

However, the Netherlands’ performance was viewed with some trepidation until their first goal and they may have been flattered by the final result.

And they could face a tougher test against Ecuador, who will be full of confidence after their opening salvo.

The 2-0 win over Qatar means they have lost just one of their last 16 caps, a run in which they avoided defeat by both Argentina and Brazil in World Cup qualifiers.

The Netherlands’ two goals against Senegal came from just three shots on target and they were goalless by the 84th minute, leaving Ecuador optimistic about their chances.

Bet 2: Back under 2.5 goals

Ecuador’s win over Qatar brought a seventh consecutive clean sheet and they have the defensive discipline to frustrate the Dutch.

There have been two or fewer goals in 13 of Ecuador’s last 14 internationals and the trend towards low goals may continue against European opponents.

In each of the Netherlands’ last three games, including their World Cup opener, supporters with under 2.5 goals have also been rewarded.

Bet 3: Bet on Matthijs de Ligt to receive a card

Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt was booked in his World Cup opener against Senegal, and another yellow card could follow against Ecuador.

If there’s one area where centre-back De Ligt can be unmasked, it’s in pace and power, and the presence of in-form Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia, who scored twice against Qatar, could give him a difficult evening.

Three lions can maintain a perfect start

Bet 1: Defend England to win

Gareth Southgate has a wealth of options to choose from as England look to secure promotion

England struck hard in their 6-2 win over Iran in their Group B opener and should also be eyeing maximum points against the USA.

Gareth Southgate has a number of attacking stars – including Harry Kane, who was found fit after an examination on his ankle – and his side should have the ammunition they need to defeat the Americans, who drew their first game 1-1 with Wales have played.

This game was a two-half tale as the USA dominated the first third before Wales roared back and the Three Lions are also expected to finish this game stronger.

Gregg Berhalter’s side started this game against Wales with full intensity, but that energy waned in the second half as fatigue set in.

USA have won just one of their last six internationals and are unlikely to be able to live with the pace and hunger of this young England side.

Bet 2: Bake Bukayo Saka to score a goal

With Kane possibly not at 100%, England may look to Arsenal youngster Saka for inspiration.

The 21-year-old should be one of the first names on the squad after his match against Iran as he scored a brilliant brace and posed a constant attacking threat.

However, his performance came as no surprise as he has excelled all season in the Premier League and has now scored seven goals in 21 games for club and country this season.

Bet 3: Bet on Tyler Adams to get a card

USA conceded four cautions in their 1-1 draw with Wales and the way they approach games with such energy and commitment almost guarantees more to come.

Tyler Adams managed to avoid being disciplined by the referee in his first game at the World Cup, but he may not be so lucky against England.

The Leeds defensive midfielder has received four bookings in 13 games for his Premier League side this season and the presence of Jude Bellingham complicates his job.
