Thanksgiving falls on November 24 this year—a time when millions of people across the United States celebrate and express their gratitude for their blessings.
Every year it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, typically by large family gatherings to have a meal with a roast turkey at the centre. The turkey is usually served with a stuffing of onions and celery, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bun, corn, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce. But every family puts their own spin on Thanksgiving dinner.
Thanksgiving Day has been a federal holiday since December 1941, which means that many offices and public facilities are closed.
Many shops are closed but some remain open. Banks are not required by law to close on federal holidays designated by the Federal Reserve system, but typically do so or have reduced hours.
Here are some wishes, messages and greetings to send to your loved ones on Thanksgiving.

Rowan University history professor Bill Carrigan shared some of his Thanksgiving greetings with us news week.
“Dear Mom and Dad, Happy Thanksgiving! I wish I could be there with family today. We had a great time when we were last able to come a few years ago. Missing Thanksgiving dinner (and watching the soccer game with my brother) is one of the sad things about living so far from home. We hope you have a wonderful time and we hope to make it next year. Best regards, Bill,” Carrigan said news week.
“Dear Julia, Happy Thanksgiving! I knew that now that you’re all grown up, we’d finally be missing out on a Thanksgiving together. I hope you are doing well and having a nice meal with some of your friends. Be sure to call us later! Best, Dad,” he added.
