Pawmi and its second-stage evolution, Pawmo, is the first Electric Pokémon that trainers will encounter in the Paldea region Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Pawmo is a cute Electric Mouse Pokémon not dissimilar to Pikachu. It crushes Water and Electric types in the early game with ease.
When players level up Pawmo past the point where many other Pokémon normally evolve and see a missing entry in their Pokédex, most will wonder what the deal is – does Pawmo evolve? Why isn’t yours evolving!?
This is because Pawmo has very unique evolution requirements that are somewhat hidden. We’ll show you how to evolve Pawmo into Pawot in no time.
How to evolve Pawmo to Pawmot
In order to evolve Pawmo, you need to walk around with him outside of his Poké Ball for a bit. While this sounds easy, it’s a little more complicated than hatching a Pokémon Egg.
Step 1: No level is required to advance Pawmo. It can evolve again right after Pawmi evolves to level 18. For the next evolution, we recommend getting your Pawmo close to leveling through auto battles to save up XP candies before proceeding.
Step 2: Go to any city on the map. You can also do this in the wild, but you’ll have to dodge wild Pokemon as you go. It’s much easier in the city, where you can’t accidentally get into a battle.
Step 3: Use the Let’s Go feature to take Pawmo for a walk outside of his Poké Ball. You can do this by pressing R or ZR at any time.
Step 4: Now you have to walk 1,000 steps with Pawmo by your side.
There’s no pedometer, but it took us about six minutes of non-stop walking to reach the evolutionary threshold.
Be careful not to stray too far from Pawmo or it will automatically return to its Poké Ball and restart the counter. These steps must all be done in one go. Move your camera to make sure the little guy keeps up.
Step 5: When you’ve been walking around for a while and think you’ve hit 1,000 steps, head into your bag and use an XP Candy on Pawmo to level it up.
If you don’t have any XP candies, you can easily find some at Tera Raids. You can also try participating in a wild Pokémon battle instead.
Your Pawmo should immediately evolve into Pawmot!
If your Pawmo isn’t evolving, you probably haven’t reached that 1,000 step goal. Try again, running around a little longer this time, then try to level up again.
Pawmot is by no means one of the strongest Electric-type Pokemon in the game, so it’s not exactly a must-have Pokemon to get through the game. However, if you’re looking to complete your Pokédex or need a solid early-game thunderclap machine, Pawmot is a clutch pickup.
