At first glance, India’s three-game One-Day International series against New Zealand, which begins on Friday in Auckland, will go down in history as yet another pointless contest without context.

On Monday, Australia and England faced off at the MCG in front of few spectators and a similar scene at the Eden Mark when India and New Zealand take the field is possible.
