Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a potential transfer target in the future.
Kudus, 22, has emerged as a breakthrough talent due to his excellent performances for Ajax in the ongoing 2022-23 season. Despite operating in a reclusive forward role behind Brian Brobbey, he has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 21 games in all competitions.
A technical player with speed, flair and directness, Kudus is known for his versatility. Aside from his natural role as an attacking midfielder, he is also adept as a right winger.
According to Sports World Ghana, Liverpool sent their first-team scouts to oversee Kudus during Ghana’s 3-2 Group H defeat by Portugal at the FIFA World Cup on Thursday (November 24) in Qatar. Kudus put in a very good performance in his 19th cap, providing a second-half assist for Andre Ayew.
AC Milan, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Everton are also in the running to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis next January.
Kudus, who has a contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena until June 2025, joined Ajax from FC Nordsjaelland in July 2020 for a fee of around £8million. Overall, he has scored 15 goals and six assists in 63 appearances for Alfred Schreuder’s side in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Liverpool need attacking midfielders as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones fail to cement a consistent spot in their first-team plans. James Milner and Naby Keita are also in the last year of their contracts at Anfield.
Liverpool will be watching the Premier League midfielder at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have identified West Ham United ace Declan Rice as a transfer target for next summer. The club are currently following the midfielder’s performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to gauge his attitude in high-pressure battles against top teams.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the England midfielder, who shone in his country’s recent 6-2 group stage win over Iran.
Rice, 23, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders over the past two seasons. He has 11 goals and 12 assists in 215 total appearances for the Hammers.
The Merseyside side are also keeping tabs on Jude Bellingham at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Borussia Dortmund teenager has been on the radar since the start of the summer transfer window.
