Liverpool see £9m ace who was ‘very close’ to Everton at World Cup

According to Sports World Ghana, Liverpool will scout Ajax striker Mohammed Kudus during Ghana’s World Cup clash with Portugal on Thursday after Premier League rivals Everton were out in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp learned firsthand a few months ago how devastating kudus can be when given the time and space to find their place. The former Nordsjaelland talisman impressively canceled out Mo Salah’s early opener during Liverpool’s Champions League group stage clash with Ajax in September; Shifting the ball away from Virgil van Dijk before hitting it off the bar.

Even the great Alisson Becker could only stand and watch. He might as well have been in the Kop.

That was just one of 10 goals Kudus has scored in 21 games this season; his evolution from box-to-box midfielder to penalty-box poacher was the greatest achievement of Alfred Schreuder’s tenure as Ajax coach.

Sports World Ghana believe Kudus has made a lasting impression on Klopp as well, with the Liverpool boss continuing to keep an eye on a player who is also on the respective radars of Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Merseyside giants will reportedly have scouts with them when Kudus’ Ghana take on Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and company later this week.

Liverpool eye Ajax’s one-time Everton target Mohammed Kudus

Liverpool’s Stanley Park neighbors Everton have tried and failed to attract kudu to Goodison Park in the summer. The Toffees even put in a £15million bid (The Independent). The Accra-born 22-year-old ended up staying after being guaranteed a starring role at the Johan Cruyff Arena by Schreuder.

“I was really close to moving to Everton,” explains Kudus. “It was a good project for me and I felt I should try it. I spoke to Lampard.”

However, Kudus didn’t rule out a possible departure from Ajax in January as he pressed on his future earlier this month.

“I’m a player who likes to challenge myself,” adds the youngster. “This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings.

“The most important thing is that I just keep playing for the team and the rest will come naturally later.”

Liverpool’s interest comes at a time when the 2022 Champions League runners-up are prioritizing an attacking central midfielder; Jude Bellingham their number one goal. However, Kudus would come in much cheaper than Dortmund’s English Maestro.

Dortmund reportedly want at least £85m.
