About three million spectators are expected to line the parade route to watch in person, organizers say, as the balloons, floats and marching bands make their way from the Upper West Side to Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square.
This year’s event will feature 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 12 marching bands, a variety of music stars and more. Plus 700 clowns and Santa Claus.
Spectators attending the big event can watch the balloons being inflated on Wednesday afternoon, November 23 on the Upper West Side. The preparations are open to the public from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The site is only accessible from West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue.
The parade is scheduled to begin on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, at 8:45 a.m. ET, with televised coverage from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In 2022 there will be 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) of public viewing along the route.
