Melbourne Renegades sign Martin Guptill as Liam Livingstone’s replacement for BBL 12

New Zealand cricket team’s experienced opening batsman Martin Guptill has joined Melbourne Renegades to replace Liam Livingstone for the 2022-23 Big Bash League (BBL).

Cricket Australia (CA) has already announced the full schedule for the 2022-23 Big Bash League (BBL) which will be the 12th edition of Australia’s T20 competition. The tournament is scheduled to start on Tuesday 13 December 2022, with Sydney Thunder taking on the Melbourne Stars at the Manuka Oval, and the T20 league finals will be held on 4 February 2022.

In the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, a total of 56 games will be played in the league phase and the games will be played in 17 venues.

Meanwhile, the Kiwi top-batter has signed with the Melbourne Renegades just days after being released from his New Zealand contract.

He will feature in the final 10 games of the season for Renegades as West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is set to take Livingstone’s place in the first four games.

In particular, the English all-rounder Livingstone has withdrawn from the BBL 12 due to his increased international commitment, since he was included in the English test squad.

The 36-year-old prelude Martin Guptill expressed his excitement about joining Melbourne Renegades and said he was looking forward to the new challenge.

“I’m excited to join the Renegades and excited to be a part of the Big Bash this season. This is a new challenge for me and it will be nice to call Melbourne home for the summer. I’ll try to get as many runs as possible to push the Renegades back up and push for team success. I’ve gotten to know some of the guys on the international circuit over the years and I know this will be a great team environment to be a part of. I can’t wait to join the team after Christmas and play at Marvel Stadium in front of lots of Renegades fans [Docklands] and in Geelong,” said Guptill, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Melbourne Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said he was delighted to have a player of Martin Guptill’s caliber in the squad.

“We are delighted to have a player of Martin’s caliber joining the Renegades and we are delighted that he has chosen to play for our club. Martin’s record over a long period in the shortest form of the game for New Zealand and in domestic competitions around the world speaks for itself. We know Martin will add a wealth of experience and knowledge to our playgroup and look forward to seeing what he can produce in Red,” said Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten.

“The signing of Martin and Andre last month was a great result for our club. With Andre playing the first four games and Martin joining us from there, we now have a world-class player available for the duration of the tournament who will help us have every chance of success in BBL 12,” he added .
