Most cathartic moments in the games

Few series in video game history have as many entries as The Legend of Zelda. Due to the varied and divided timeline of the series, each game feels completely unique in its characters, its world and even its gameplay.


Over the years there have been over 25 zelda Made games, most of which are high quality adventures. They’re often fairly massive titles with tons of side quests, challenges, and collectibles for players to seek out. Because of this, there are many major challenges in the games that feel amazing to overcome and can even give players a sense of emotional release when they do so. Every title in the series has these, but some are legends in their own right.

7/7 Get Biggoron’s Sword

While the Master Sword is Link’s most iconic weapon, there are several zelda Games offer the player alternative weapons that are technically more powerful, usually in exchange for less reliability. Biggoron’s Sword is certainly one of the most famous. It originally appears as the purchasable “Big Sword”, but is easily breakable. In order to have it permanently, it must be forged by Biggoron himself.

Forging the sword is a separate side quest ocarina of time, which requires lots of travel and timed challenges that are difficult to complete without a guide. However, when finally completed, the sword can trivialize many fights. It feels just as powerful as the long process of getting it promises, and makes it well worth the effort.

6/7 End a silent realm

While Skyward Sword Made a few mistakes when executing new game mechanics, it often excels in tone and presentation, including its beautiful art. In the second half of the game, Link forces him to forge the master sword to encounter what is perhaps the most sonically terrifying part of the series: the silent realms.

These out-of-the-way challenges are entirely devoid of normal enemies and NPCs, replaced instead with wandering guardians and collectible holy tears. One wrong move sends the normally placid realms into a frenzy while the Guardians hunt Link relentlessly. Finally being able to win in the face of this ruthless attack is a tremendous relief.

5/7 A perfect Majora’s Mask Run

Til today, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask offers one of the most unique gaming experiences in gaming. Based on a repeating 3-day cycle, if Link needs to travel back to day one, most progress will reset, including side quests and story progress.

While it’s impossible to do everything in a single cycle, each cycle dedicated to one task or another is worthwhile. Whether it’s the quest for the “gilded sword”, reuniting Anju and Kafei, or taking the precautions necessary to stop the moon from collapsing, each 3-day quest feels great when it’s finally completed becomes.

4/7 Kill a Lynel

Of the many changes that changes breath of the wild made to zelda Formula, one of the most talked about is the changes to the series’ combat. While strong enemies were more than present in the other games, the sudden transience of weapons and reliance on timed dodges made things much more difficult.

BOTW‘s incarnation of the Lynel appears to have been purposely designed to help players explore the openings these systems offer. With sky-high HP stats, devastating damage, and more moves than any other normal opponent in the game, Lynels are a constant obstacle. They feel amazing when finally overcome for the first time and are perfect for when players need to vent their in-game frustration.

3/7 Kill a guard

This shares many similarities with the feel of killing a Lynel, but the presence of both entries here is just a testament to the quality of BOTWBattle Challenges from . Throughout the game, Guardians appear almost like horror monsters. They stalk the ruined land of Hyrule, eyes ever on the hunt for Link. As soon as they spot him, the music changes to a panicked tune and they try to run down and blast him to pieces.

Whether it’s through learning the time-sensitive laser parry or dumping an entire weapon inventory into it, finally seeing a Guardian explode feels like being the last survivor in a slasher flick.

2/7 beat Ganon

Ganon and his human form Ganondorf are the main antagonists for almost everyone zelda Game. Even when a new enemy like Zant or Yuga enters the stage for a while, they often give way to a Ganon fight. Because of this, most games present Ganon as the final challenge, meaning that beating him is necessary in order to beat the game itself.

Don’t let it be said that Ganon makes it easy. Whether it’s his trident-wielding form from top to bottom zelda Games, or its imposing shape from the 3D zelda, he always has a new trick to keep experienced players guessing. Defeating him is the pinnacle of the game, and there’s no greater cathartic onslaught than saving Hyrule.

It’s a small moment, but one shared by all major series zelda titles and most spin-offs, which adds to its power zelda fans. zelda is a series known for puzzles big and small, and from the start players have been rewarded with a simple jingle for solving these puzzles.

While the jingle is, on the whole, seemingly insignificant, it becomes an instant and satisfying affirmation of success. Especially after banging your head on a particularly tricky puzzle, finally getting those 4 notes to play is a direct and unwavering dopamine hit.
