Naomi Ackie: I Wanna Dance With Somebody Interview [WATCH]

“The hardest part of portraying Whitney Houston portrays Whitney Houston,” says Naomi Ackie, who plays the music legend in “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” The upcoming biopic about the legendary singer is set to hit theaters on December 23. Watch a new promotional video for the film below.

“Our goal was to celebrate Whitney for everything she was,” Ackie continues. “The singer, producer, actress, fashion icon and the person. This film is a declaration of love to Whitney.”

Houston was discovered by a legendary music executive Clive Davis and signed to his ARISTA Records in 1983. Davis is serving as the film’s producer and said, “Naomi Ackie, she has a huge responsibility to bring the whole Whitney Houston persona to the world and she is the real deal.”

Kasi lemons directs the biographical musical based on the life of one of the world’s biggest superstars. Lemmon’s previous directing credits include 2019’s Harriet, starring the Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo and starring in the 1997 cult classic Eve’s Bayou Lynne Whitfield and Samuel L Jackson. I Wanna Dance With Somebody was written by a four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCartenwhose previous screenwriting credits include The Theory of Everything (2014), Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) and The Two Popes (2019).
