MRS. GUTHRIE: Guys, I think I’m getting a call. You know, I’m not the type of person to talk on the phone while watching TV. Oh, but I think – I think I should answer that question.
Hello Mr. President? I don’t think I can hear you. Can you hear me Mr. President? (Technical difficulties.) Hello? Happy Thanksgiving. Mr President, are you there?
THE PRESIDENT: We are here! (Laughs.)
THE FIRST LADY Hello! Happy Thanksgiving.
MRS. GUTRIE: Ah! (Laughs) I was so worried that call wasn’t going to go through. How are you?
THE PRESIDENT: We are fine. We’re fine. I’m watching your parade. You’re doing a good job.
MRS. GUTHRIE: Oh, thanks. I love that you’re watching the –
THE PRESIDENT: You are also responsible for the good weather of the parade. That’s the best part.
MRS. GUTHRIE: I take that to my credit, yes. Many Thanks.
And just like millions of Americans who are watching the parade, what do you want to say to everyone who is watching?
THE FIRST LADY: We just want to say that we are so grateful to people, for this opportunity, for the health that we have in America now. And just Happy Thanksgiving.
Joe, what are you trying to say?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I want to thank the firefighters, the police officers, and the first responders. They never take a break.
THE FIRST LADY And God bless our troops for sure.
THE PRESIDENT: By the way, later today we’re going to be speaking to some of our troops, both here and abroad. And I hope everyone remembers that we really do end each and every day with “God bless our troops.”
MRS. GUTHRIE: That’s so true. We are so thankful. And what are your plans for Thanksgiving after the parade?
THE FIRST LADY: Well, we’re just going to have family dinner, probably walk on the beach, and just feel gratitude for our family.
THE PRESIDENT: Well, we come to Nantucket for – since we got married, for the whole family. And it has become a tradition. And we will stop at the fire station. We’ll make sure to spend some time on the island to thank the first responders here. And we go to the Coast Guard, the military.
MRS. GUTHRIE: Well that’s wonderful and sounds absolutely lovely.
Thank you Mr. President and Dr. Biden for taking the time to join us today. And I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
THE PRESIDENT: You too. I hope you have some time to enjoy it. We’ll call Al too and see how he’s doing.
MRS. GUTHRIE: Al’s great. Thank you for asking.
THE PRESIDENT: All right.
THE FIRST LADY: Happy Thanksgiving!
MRS. GUTHRIE: Happy Thanksgiving!
