Rivalry Week games affecting Clemson Football

Thanksgiving means rivalry games. Clemson Football welcomes archrivals the South Carolina Gamecocks with a shot at an eighth straight win of the series and a chance to end the regular season 11-1.

There are several other games that will impact the Tigers, the playoff chase and/or the New Year’s Six Bowl games.

Friday begins at 12 p.m. with Cincinnati hosting Tulane. The winner will most likely be the Group of Five participant in the New Year’s Six.

Two games on Friday affect Clemson’s record strength. UNC will host NC State at 3:30 p.m. The wolf pack has been slipping backwards lately. UNC will be the Tigers’ opponents in the ACC Championship game. It’s probably for Clemson’s best as the Tar Heels recover from their whoopsy against Georgia Tech. Tiger fans should cheer: North Carolina

Florida State hosts Florida at 7:30 p.m. A Seminole win gives the ACC a win over the SEC and further boosts the FSU’s resume. That helps Clemson because her best win is a road win in Tallahassee. Tiger fans should cheer for: Florida State

The biggest game at national level kicks off on Saturday afternoon. Michigan travels to Columbus to take on the state of Ohio. My Opinion: If the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines, Michigan will fall out of the top 4 in my opinion. If the Wolverines win, it takes a big margin to knock Ohio State out of the top 4. It’s probably best for Clemson if Ohio State wins this game convincingly. Tiger fans should cheer for: Ohio State

Clemson Football needs Iowa State and Notre Dame to pull off surprises to help the Tigers’ playoff hopes.

TCU hosts Iowa State late Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones have been out this season, but they also tend to have surprises. I wouldn’t hold my breath, but an ISU win would be a huge help to Clemson’s playoff chances. Tiger fans should cheer for: Iowa State

The ACC have a major cross-divisional rivalry game on Saturday afternoon when Duke Wake Forest hosts. The Demon Deacons halted a three-game slide with a win over Syracuse. A win over the Blue Devils puts Wake Forest up 8-4 and helps Clemson’s resume. Tiger fans should cheer for: Wake Forest

Saturday night features a classic rivalry when Notre Dame visits USC. If the Trojans beat the Irish and follow that up with a PAC-12 championship, they have a good chance of earning a playoff spot. Losing to Notre Dame may still be a sore point for Tiger Nation, but Clemson Football needs the Irish to end the excitement in Los Angeles. Tiger fans should cheer: Notre Dame
