Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical clips tease big dance numbers

Some official clips from Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical were revealed ahead of the film’s arrival in select theaters next month. It will also be available to stream on Netflix on December 25th.

The first video offers us our first preview of one of the film’s full-scale musical numbers, with energetic synchronized choreography involving school children. Meanwhile, the second video highlights Matilda’s high intellect as she shares her love of reading.

“The story revolves around Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir), a little girl with a great curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination – and the worst parents in the world (Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough),” reads the official synopsis for the movie. “While they are content with trashy TV and shady dealings, Matilda loves to lose herself in the pages of her beloved books. Where they are loud, selfish and unkind, she is a silent observer, dreaming up small and cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge.”

Matilda the musical It stars Oscar winner Emma Thompson, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Sindhu Vee, Alisha Weir and Lashana Lynch. It was directed by Tony Award-winning Matthew Warchus, who also directed the stage musical. The musical itself is based on the 1988 children’s novel of the same name written by Roald Dahl and the 2010 musical adaptation of the book.

Mathilde was first filmed in 1996 by actor-director Danny DeVito, with Mara Wilson taking on the title role. Meanwhile Dennis Kellys Matilda The Musical has been running in London since 2011 and had a successful Broadway run from 2013-2017. The musical is scheduled to be released in selected cinemas on December 9, 2022. Netflix will then release the film on its streaming services on December 25.
