Tenneco Advanced Suspension Technologies on course for growth in China

CHANGZHOU, China, November 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Tenneco’s Performance Solutions group of companies, Advanced Suspension Technologies (AST), today celebrated another significant milestone for its electronic suspension portfolio and outlined its strategy to become a leading technology partner to automakers around the world China. The company received government dignitaries and media representatives at its manufacturing facility in Changzhou to mark the expansion of its CVSAe semi-active suspension China. CVSAe technology is featured in the Zeekr 001 electric hatchback, Geely Lynk & Co 09 hybrid SUV and Li Auto L9&L8 luxury electric SUV.

One of several electronic suspensions available through Tenneco’s Monroe® Intelligent Suspension (MIS) portfolio, CVSAe technology has already found widespread adoption Europe and other regions with more than 16 million units shipped since 2002 for more than 75 vehicle models. The system continuously adapts to changing road conditions based on data provided by multiple ride control sensors. An ECU processes sensor inputs and independently adjusts the electronic valves in each of the system’s four dampers, resulting in optimal damping characteristics for every driving situation. For maximum driving pleasure, the driver can select their preferred operating mode from high-comfort to sporty. CVSAe combines an exceptional driving experience with very low power consumption, making it ideal for all-electric and hybrid vehicles.

“CVSAe offers an exceptionally wide tuning range not typical of competing systems,” said Johansson. “This capability allows the vehicle manufacturer to tune the precise ride and handling characteristics that have been specified for each new model. This is the key to optimizing driving dynamics, especially in electric vehicles and hybrids, whose comparatively heavy battery packs are positioned deep in the vehicle structure.”

CVSAe technology is compatible with coil spring and air suspension equipped vehicles, can be used with shock absorbers and/or Macpherson struts and requires minimal electrical power. Tenneco can supply the damper modules along with the software and control algorithms that can be efficiently adapted to each new model.

The introduction of CVSAe technology in China was made possible through close collaboration between Tenneco’s Engineering Center for Excellence in Ermua, Spainand China-based engineering, sales, program management, purchasing and operations teams. “China is an integral part of our growth strategy and our engineers work hand-in-hand with OEM teams to optimize the integration of our latest suspension innovations into their development activities,” said Johansson. “This contributes to time and cost savings and translates into savings in a superior driving experience for their end customers.”
