Nov. 25 (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the party has no objection to the use of modern technology for the 2023 election.
The party’s national PR secretary, Felix Morka, made the clarification in Abuja on Thursday.
Morka was apparently responding to media reports that the party’s national leader, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, expressed reservations about using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Election Result Viewing Portal (IReV) for the 2023 election.
Adamu had said at a meeting with a delegation from the Commonwealth primary team on Wednesday that BVAS and IReV would not function optimally without stable power.
But Morka, speaking to journalists on Thursday, said APC’s national chairman had merely “managed INEC to take effective steps to plug any gaps that might be caused by problems with electricity and telecom networks in certain remote constituencies of the country, to ensure a smooth and successful deployment of BVAS and other technologies to ensure free and transparent elections.
“To be clear, Chairman Adamu has not opposed the use of BVAS or the electronic submission of results, as has been erroneously reported by sections of the media.
“The APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari is midwife to the successful reform of the electoral law, the introduction of (BVAS) among other technological innovations and has overseen the conduct of credible, free, fair and transparent elections in Edo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states .
“Our party and our government continue to work for the highest level of electoral transparency and democratic consolidation in our country.”
Also, Director of the Campaign Council’s National Youth Mobilization North Central, Mike Msuaan, said the APC would not in any way undermine the use of BVAS and IReV.
He said: “We didn’t see Asiwaju compete with Atiku and Peter Obi. We know what Atiku did to this land. He threw the youth of North Central and this country onto the streets.
“We are up to the task. We have someone who is competent, whose history spoke for him and would speak for him. This is someone whose economic plan in Lagos is being duplicated in other states. The two are nowhere comparable to Tinubu. Under Tinubu there would be total liberation for youth and wealth creation.”
“The President of the United States of America (USA) is as old as Tinubu. It’s not about age, it’s about what you have upstairs. Tinubu has more experience than anyone else. The right thing the President would do is muster the best hands for the country. He has been tested and trusted. He did it in Lagos and he will do it for Nigeria.
“Why should the APC be afraid of BVAS and electronic reporting of results when the youth has our strong back? Why should we be afraid? I told you that if there are elections tomorrow, we will win.
“They’re the ones running after us. We’ve already given them a head start of more than 30 percent. And if there are elections tomorrow, we would give them more than 50 percent. We are very happy with INEC’s agreement.
“We will win with this because it has prevented the manipulation of those who want to manipulate the results on election day. Asiwaju is the next President of this country by the grace of God.”
