Winona State ranked fourth in NSIC All-Sports standings after the 2022 fall season

BURNSVILLE, Minnesota — Winona State University ranks fourth overall in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) all-sports rankings after the recent conclusion of the 2022 fall sports season. The Warriors are fourth with the University of Sioux Falls; Both schools have scored 46.5 points, the league announced earlier this week.

Winona State scored 15 points in the men’s athletic score and 31.5 points in the women’s athletic score for a 46.5 overall. Augustana led the overall standings with 63 total points and topped the women’s rankings with 40. Minnesota State — Mankato scored the most points in the men’s standings with 25.8.

Winona State has made the NSIC and NCAA postseasons in several fall sports, and one program — women’s cross country — has advanced to the 2022 NCAA National Championships, taking place Dec. 2 at Chambers Creed Regional Park in University Place, Washington will. Seattle Pacific University is the hosting institution for the event.

During the fall season, the Winona State football team clinched a 5-1 record in the NSIC South Division title and qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division II football postseason with a record 8-3. The WSU women’s soccer team advanced to the 2022 NSIC soccer tournament and finished sixth overall in the league. In women’s cross country, Lindsay Cunningham was the 2022 NSIC singles champion and the WSU women’s program finished third overall and was selected to the 2022 NCAA championships. Winona State placed tenth in the final NSIC volleyball standings, and the Warrior men’s cross country team also placed tenth in the NSIC championships.

The winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship will be awarded points equal to the number of teams in that sport plus one. The runner-up gets points equal to the number of teams minus the number of places from the first-place. Ties in the leaderboard at any level will result in points totaling and equal distribution.

The NSIC will again publish the overall standings for all sports after the end of the winter sports season. The NSIC All-Sports Champion will be announced after the spring season, with the award being presented at the NSIC Summer Kickoff in July 2023.
