Spain, the 2010 world champions, will try to avoid a similar fate. The Spaniards are heavily favored (-769 on FOX Bet) to win against a Costa Rica side who failed to make it past the group stage in 2018. However, Costa Rica will be looking to repeat the formula used by Japan and Saudi Arabia. He draws on the outstanding goalkeeping performance of star Keylor Navas, who has a long career of European club experience at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Spain vs Costa Rica
Enrique believes in his team
Since winning everything in 2010, Spain have had mixed results at recent World Cups. In 2018, Spain lost to hosts Russia in the round of 16, and in 2014 they did not progress beyond the group stage. This year’s squad is full of young talent, with a total of nine players coming from powerhouses FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Manager Luis Enrique, himself a former Spain international, believes his squad has what it takes to take Spain back to the World Cup.
Costa Rica sings loud and proud
Costa Rica is at a World Cup for the third year in a row and even reached the quarter-finals in 2014. However, the players are still in the moment and showing their country pride during their national anthem.
